The age rule
In British Columbia, anyone under 19 is prohibited from taking part in commercial gaming. Parq says everyone entering its casino has to be 19 or older and show ID, whatever their age. That also applies to the bars and food counters inside the casino levels.
Taking a break: self-exclusion
B.C. requires casinos, bingo halls and the provincial online site to offer a free, voluntary self-exclusion programme: you can ask to be barred from those facilities for a period you choose. At Parq it is called GameBreak, and the casino says its staff are trained to help with it. People who have self-excluded are refused entry.
Help inside the building
Parq runs a GameSense Info Centre on Level 2, with GameSense Advisors who give information and connect people with support. You can walk up without having gambled at all.
Signs worth taking seriously
- Spending more money or time than you planned, again and again.
- Chasing losses, or borrowing to keep going.
- Hiding it from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious, low or irritable when you try to stop.
Any one of those is reason enough to call the line above. It is confidential.
Where we stand
False Creek Nights is a hotel guide. We do not promote gambling, publish casino offers or take money from gambling operators. We mention the casino because it is part of the building and its 19+ rule affects your stay.
