The numbers
- Where
- Sixth floor, between the JW Marriott and the DOUGLAS
- Size
- 30,000 sq ft of open-air space
- Planting
- More than 200 native pines and 15,000 local plants
- Designer
- Landscape artist Christopher Phillips
- Features
- A water feature, walking paths, small seating nooks
- Next to it
- The Victor and D/6 Bar + Lounge
All of the above comes from Parq's own page about the park. The building around it was designed to aim for LEED Gold, using local materials such as Douglas fir and North Shore rock; the JW's meetings page calls the venue LEED Gold-certified.
How to use it on a show day
- 4 p.m.
Before the crowds
Walk the paths while it is still light. The view across the city is the reason the restaurants up here are booked.
- 6 p.m.
Dinner on the edge of it
The Victor's dining room looks over the park. Book ahead on event nights.
- 10:30p.m.
After the show
D/6 has a patio with its own outdoor bar, tucked under the eaves of BC Place. Its hours are on the D/6 page.
- 8 a.m.
The morning after
Coffee from Starbucks on the main level, then a slow lap of the park before checkout.
Parq does not publish opening hours for the park itself, or say whether it is ever closed for private events. Since the Park Terrace is also sold as an event venue of about 9,000 sq ft, part of it may be taken by a wedding or a launch on the day you visit.
Weddings and events up here
The JW's events team sells the Park Terrace, surrounded by the 30,000 sq ft park, as a space for weddings, receptions and even car launches. Parq's wedding page lists the rooftop park among its outdoor ceremony options, next to the covered Fairview Terrace. More on meetings and weddings.
Rain
This is Vancouver. The park is open air; D/6's patio sits under the eaves of BC Place and the lounge says it serves outside all year. On a wet evening, look at the park from The Victor's windows and keep the walk for the morning. Our note on a wet show day has the indoor plan.
A word on the trees
Parq says the pines and local flora help offset the building's carbon footprint. We have no way to check that claim; we report it as the resort's own statement. What we can say: it is green, it is quiet compared with Pacific Boulevard, and it is the best thing in the building that costs nothing.
