The verdict in four lines
Book it if your trip is built around an event at BC Place or Rogers Arena and you would rather walk than ride home.
Choose the JW for quiet, the spa floor and the big two-bedroom Sky Suite. Choose the DOUGLAS for a livelier building, the sixth-floor lounge and suites made for groups.
Think twice if you want a swimming pool, a quiet neighbourhood, or a cheap room on a sold-out night.
Ignore the casino unless you have a reason to go in. It is 19+ and you do not need it to enjoy the stay.
What is strong
- 01location
Next to BC Place, a block from Rogers Arena
The single best argument. Two SkyTrain stations within 850 m, the Canada Line to YVR among them.
- 02the park
A 30,000 sq ft garden on level 6
More than 200 pines and 15,000 plants, with The Victor and D/6 opening onto it. Nothing else in the stadium district has that.
- 03late food
The building feeds you at any hour
24/7 Eats and Parq Market never close; Koi Noodle Bar runs to 1 a.m.; D/6 to 3 a.m. at weekends.
- 04range
Two hotels in one
From a standard JW room to a two-level suite with a grand piano, without changing address.
- 05wellness
A real spa floor
Spa by JW, an outdoor hydrotherapy tub, steam rooms and a 4,240 sq ft gym open 24 hours.
What is weaker
- 01no pool
There is no swimming pool
The Aqua Lounge has a hot tub, and the hotel says plainly that it is not a swimming pool.
- 02price
Event nights cost more
Rooms and parking both rise when the venues are busy; the garage switches to an event rate three hours before a start.
- 03noise
A party building on weekends
D/6 is the DOUGLAS lobby bar and runs to 3 a.m.; there is a DJ on Level 2 and Level 3 on Friday and Saturday. Light sleepers should ask for the JW.
- 04under-19s
Part of the building is 19+
Four food and drink spots sit inside the casino. Families with teenagers have fewer late options.
- 05gaps
Missing published details
Standard room sizes, bed types and check-in times were not on the hotels' readable pages.
Who it suits
Good fit
- Concert-goers and sports fans with tickets next door
- Groups who want a suite for the after-party
- Couples who want a spa morning after a big night
- Conference guests with a ballroom downstairs
Look elsewhere
- Swimmers
- Anyone who wants a quiet residential street outside
- Budget travellers on the biggest event nights
- Families wanting late-night food for under-19s
How we got here
We read every page of the resort's own site, the two hotels' pages on Marriott, the BC Place and Rogers Arena calendars, the NHL schedule, TransLink, YVR and the B.C. government's gambling support pages, all on 31 October 2026. We used Wikipedia only as a second source and say so where we do. We did not stay as mystery guests, and we do not pretend to have. The full list of facts and their sources sits at the foot of each page.
This verdict is written by the same site that earns a commission on room requests. We say that up front. It is also why the weaker points above are as specific as the strong ones.
